Hi all
I attended a fantastic VV water kefir class recently and am now enjoying healthy delicious probiotics 6 days/week (you're supposed to allow one day/week without any)... after the class, I bought additional scoby and it's grown so much that I now have a lot of excess. Folks on Craigslist are selling theirs for $5/TBSP which I am too, but! For my VV community, I'll give you 2TBSP for $5. A great deal. My scoby has only been fed organic cane sugar etc. It's very healthy. If you're…

Hi!
I have 3 laying chickens and their coop that I need to find a new home for. We're moving and unfortunately were not able to find another landlord that would allow us to keep our chickens. Sadly, the house we are in is going to be demolished in a few months, so we find ourselves in this situation.
The coop is large, so would probably need to be dissassembled, but anyone with a truck who is handy could do it. And it's free - also wired for a light in the winter. This is a…

Hello Villagers,
I am brand new to backyard beekeeping (so new my bees haven't even arrived yet) and thought I would keep a record of my experiences to share with others. I have no prior experience and don't know anyone with experience to help me...so I'm winging it. My hopes in starting the page are to help spread interest in bees, help others learn from my mistakes and successes, encourage others who may be interested in urban beekeeping but may be reluctant to jump in due to lack…

This is mirrored from Jak King's blog here:
I just finished reading “Plastic Ocean” by Capt. Charles Moore and Cassandra Phillips. Hard to say much else but that this should be the “Silent Spring” of our generation.
Moore is a seaman who has become an oceanographer and environmentalist. It was his voyages that focused attention on the huge amounts of pollution — mostly…

Does anyone know the best place to get earth for my garden? I thought the vancouver landfill would have the best priced and generally best earth but recently I was told that the landfill earth is full of nasty weed seeds. Does vancouver landfill practices of hot compost not kill them? Do food scraps get turned to earth in the time vancouver landfill holds that kind of waste? Any reviews or where I could find reviews?
Thank you for your help. I do have my own two compost bins but these…
