Two Hens need New Home

Our little baby (human) daughter is now 10 months old, and mama feels strongly that we should refrain from chickening in the back yard so that baby can frolick freely, at least for the next couple years. So our two hens will need a new home. One is an Ameraucana named Puffina who lays large blue-green eggs very regularly; strong layer. The other is a speckled sussex (crossed with something I believe) names Speckles who has laid small white eggs, although she's currently not in her laying cycle;…See More

Beautiful hen needs new home

Hello,We're replacing our flock, however one of our hens is younger than the rest (~2 years or maybe a bit less), is still laying well, and should have a new home. She's a cross between a white english hen (sussex perhaps) and a black french hen. Very nice lady, deserves a new home. Please reply here or call 778-228-7620.Cheers, - James.…See More

Permaculture Village

Transition is based on, and inspired by,  Permaculture principles. Permaculture is permanent agriculture and permanent culture. We will be approaching 'creating sustainable habitat' in many different ways: regular design & demonstration projects; Social permaculture; workshops. Permablitzes, Blitzes or Permaculture Energy Transfer or Pet Day are days that we go on site collectively create systems which cycle energy toward win win win economy. Food forests provide abundant gardens and parks…See More

October Backyard Chicken Workshop in Kits

The evenings are dark in October, but we had a good workshop regardless and we treated Betty the Hen to a rare evening of socializing and snacking.

James, Betty was 5 weeks old when we got them, but I can't remember when we took the trip out to Mission where we got them.I am guessing she is about 4 months now?
I sniped her beek before you got her to try and help her eating. It bled like a dickens, I had to hold her with a cloth and apply pressure for 20 min or so to stop the bleeding. I would advise against the dermal tool.I would love to see how she is doing sometime?

Hello!

Since you have indicated Hastings-Sunrise as your neighbourhood location, I thought I would let you know that we are in the embryonic stages of creating a Hastings-Sunrise village and have set up a Village Group here at Village Vancouver to facilitate that process.

I am aware that there are lots of neighbourhood groups and activities already in place in Hastings Sunrise and hope that in some way a Hastings-Sunrise Village can help to provide some networking between groups rather than competing as another entity, but also can carry out activities that might be of interest to the other groups as well. Really, it's wide open as to what we do as a village entity... but we need participation to determine what that will be!

Please go over to the Groups page and go to the second page - there you will find Hastings Sunrise Village and can join up and participate in the discussion - and also feel free to post Hastings-Sunrise activities and events there for others to see.

Hi, I notice you list Kitsilano as your neighbourhood. Maybe you'd like to join the Kitsilano Transition Village on VV. We're planning a potluck for April 11. (Currently we have 10 members on KTV - and I know there's at least 20-30 people on the VV site who live in our area - It would be nice to meet - at least online, if not in person! - Mary [email protected]

Welcome, James!

As you can see, we are just beginning to build an on-line community for Village Vancouver, and organize our extensive activities more openly and collaboratively through this site. Please feel free to contribute to a discussion, attend or even enter a new event, join a working group, or even form a Village.

Regarding youth and the Toxic Free Canada rally on February 25, we have only a couple teenagers and about a dozen members in their twenties. Our Health Group hasn't yet formed, and is currently without a convenor.

If you would like, we'd love to have this event posted on our site, and you could do it, as noted above by going here. You can upload any image file (which will be cropped to a square) to make the event stand out better. Arzeena Hamir last month posted the Pesticide Ban rally, and a number of VV members heard about it on this site, and passed the message around.

Take care, and welcome again.
