Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
Hi everyone,
We at the MacKenzie Heights Collective, 2822 W King Edward, are searching for an individual to join our house in the near future. If you, or anyone you know, is looking for housing, and would like to be actively engaged in a community-minded house, please check out the ad below....
Located at MacDonald and King Edward, the Mackenzie Heights Collective (www.mackenzieheightscollective.org) is a household made up of seven adults, one child, and a seeing-eye dog. We share a large character house, excellent meals, good conversation, and a warm sense of community. We are looking for a responsible, fun, open-minded, engaging, community-minded individual to join our household on either June 1st, June 15th, or July 1st.
Our home offers plenty of large common spaces - a big kitchen and dining room, a living room with hardwood floors, piano and a wood-burning fireplace, a shed/workshop, and a large yard with a
cherry tree, vegetable garden, herb garden, patio and bbq.
The available bedroom is on the second floor, with hardwood floors and lots of sunshine throughout the day. It is available either unfurnished or partially furnished. The rent is $490, plus approximately $100 per month for utilities and household expenses (e.g. TP, cleaning supplies, lightbulbs, etc.).
We share vegetarian dinners (although not everyone who lives here is vegetarian) and together look after our home by sharing household responsibilities. We each contribute $55 per week to the household food budget, which covers all our meals and snacks. Shopping collectively, we enjoy the benefit of group buying power, purchasing many of our staples in wholesale quantities. We eat very well for the price that we pay! We reduce our impact on the environment by purchasing products with less packaging, and by eating predominantly local and organic foods. We also grow our own food in the backyard and are avid composters. We have excellent bus service to UBC and downtown, as well as secure indoor bike storage.
If you are interested in checking out our place, please write us an email telling us about your past shared living experiences and about what is important to you in your next home. We usually conduct a brief phone interview before showing our home to prospective housemates. Please include your phone number in your response so we can reach you. If you have any questions, please send an email at [email protected], or call us at 604-731-2370.
