Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

About Transition Towns - next Transition in Vancouver workshop June 11-12

Transition Towns (TT) was initiated over five years ago in Totnes, U.K. so citizens could take action and adapt their lives to peak oil and climate change. The movement has spread very quickly around the globe. After 4 years of learning in Totnes, the founders and others formed Transition UK as a network to support all the TT initiatives that were springing up. They also developed training workshops to share their lessons and experiences more broadly. There are currently seventeen official initiatives in Canada that are recognized by the internationally based Transition Network, including Village Vancouver, which is the Transition Hub for Vancouver and the Metropolitan area. (Meaning that we act as a resource and coordinating body for neighbourhood village initiatives in Vancouver and for new initiatives and hubs starting in the Metropolitan area.)

Village Vancouver, the Canadian Centre for Community Renewal, and Langara College Continuing Studies organized the first Transition Town workshop in Vancouver on December 3 and 4, 2009. The 4thTransition in Vancouver workshop will be held on June 11-12.

This 2-day interactive course introduces the skills and practices required to initiate a successful Transition Town model of local response to global challenges.

This workshop is for anyone interested in strengthening a community-wide response to fossil fuel dependence and climate change. Ross Moster or

Although I will be in Europe at the time of the actual meeting, please let me know how I can help publicize and increase the awareness of the event.

Transportation

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.
