"hi sarah, nice to hear from you, and your work. do you have pics? yes, only cotton and sometimes silk, rarely wool. usa built their cotton production on slave labor, the old song 'in them cotton fields back home'? something like that.…"

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Downtown East Side
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
relocalizing economy/local currency,
community building by redefining eco fashion to include not purchasing and using recycled/reclaimed textiles to creat wearable art which is not costume, but wearable.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
i have worked with textiles/clothing for over 40 years; i have knowledge and skills in surface decoration of fabric using fabric crayons and paint, embroidery, applique. in nov 2011 during heart of the city festival i had an eco fashion show at the W2 media cafe, organized by myself.
i have had a home garden and have some small knowledge and would support urban food initiatives in whatever way i could.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
i would like to have the clothing/fashion practices of people in my community to move from purchasing poorly made, mass produced garments, to a practice that uses what is already available to design and make one of a kind garments that are completely wearable. the fashion and related industries are very wasteful of land, livestock, and energy; coupled with extremely poor labour conditions. i am already working in this direction. would like to reach out to more people. i operate under the 'brand' name of chindi nation.
I agree to read and abide by the Site Guidelines under the About tab on the navigation bar, remaining respectful in all communications on this web site.

Don't feel like answering all the questions now? No worries, just tell us briefly why you're interested in joining at this time, and you can come back and update your profile later.
i met jordan bober at the workshop he gave on urban food supply during heart of the city festival. and we exchanged various informations since then. i was very impressed by the objectives of village vancouver. recently a young woman, carrie zhang, referred to me by jordan. she is interested in the same clothing practices as myself. we met, but unfortunately logistics did not work out. a few days ago mary bennett and leslie kemp said they were members of village vancouver, and since i respect them i realized it was definitely time for me to join
