Hen is crowing like a rooster...at 5 am

We lost our "top hen" last month, and as the pecking order re-established, our new top hen has taken to giving a warbling cock-a-doodle-doo at 5 in the morning! Still laying fine though. I've looked on the Internet (backyard chickens, etc) for how to deal with this, but can't seem to find whether suggested solutions will lead to permanent behavior change (eg keep them in a small pet carrier overnight so they can't raise their neck up to crow). Anyone have any experience or suggestions on this?…See More

Swollen abdomen - egg bound?

We discovered one of our hens had an egg -shaped swelling on her abdomen yesterday. Today we gave her a warm bath with Epsom salts and gently massaged the lump...it's soft, so maybe a soft shelled egg?? But other than the lump, she seems fine. Appetite, walking around, etc. Any idea what this may be if she isn't showing any other symptoms? She hasn't laid in a few days, but all our birds are molting and egg production is way down so we didn't think this was too unusual at first.

Help! Our hen is a rooster!

One of our hens turns out to be a rooster. Im not sure the farm we got it from will return it, because it has come down with MG (chronic respiratory disorder) in the past and is now a carrier for life. Any ideas? Nice looking white ameracauna fellow, about 8 months old.
