It's listed here as a reflector material for solar cooking. I can't really get 100% behind solar cookers as opposed to rocket stoves if they use tin foil, but I have no problem with repurposing this stuff.

- Terrorist or Freedom Fighter? Ever the question. Harper's Ferry. That's where I saw the photo. A real hero, especially considering where he grew up. It's easy to be a hero if you have social support around you; he didn't, at all. He was in fact captured by the North (federal troops) and turned over to Virginia for the hanging. They say Brown started the Civil War, or at least his hanging did. In my book, he was a man with laudable conviction, a rare sort these days.
I'll certainly be at the potluck at Celia's, and I'd be happy to talk green renovation/restoration. I have been in construction since I was a kid and trained under PassivHaus builders in Austria. In my book, LEED is hardly green--as practiced here--and the BC building code is an abomination.
I am not a radical; it is just that North America, and especially BC, is 20 years behind the rest of the world. I am happy to give you advice and contacts, but have to say that the web and some common sense will guide you well these days. Philip Be'er, who will likely be there next weekend, is a certified home energy consultant, and has travelled and seen the light. We'll definitely get you started well, and well begun is half done.

As you can see, we are just beginning to build an on-line community for Village Vancouver, and organize our extensive activities more openly and collaboratively through this site. Please feel free to contribute to a discussion, attend or even enter a new event, join a working group, or find a Village.
Just up the hill from you, the Main Street Neighbourhood village, led by Anna Chase, is in full swing. We have monthly potlucks, seed sharing, gardening and local (2-block) food coops, and we are looking to add more activities this summer. We plan to be a big force at this June's CarFree Day on Main Street, with a whole village set up on the road.
Please join your local village next Sunday, the 28th, for a potluck and garden planning/seed-sharing/summer activities planning session at 22nd and Ontario. Join the Main Street Neighbourhood group page to find out more. Membership in this local group is moderated to improve privacy and ensure better local connections between neighbours.
