Boy we are really paying for all that nice weather we had early in the month huh? Fortunately I have most of the big jobs I needed to do under control and I really need to spend the next 2 weeks studying for an exam anyway.
We participated in the 7th annual Blenheim Street Bazaar on Saturday with a yard sale and an "Open Coop." In spite of the terrible weather, we had a HUGE turnout... got rid of a lot of stuff and got a lot of people excited or at least curious about backyard…

What is it about Mother Earth that we cannot live without? Our North American dominant existence seems to be an increasingly one-dimensional possibility of
limits, fragmentation, and disconnection with all the stress that naturally
ensues for us, as multidimensional beings. We have lost our ground in space and
this has resulted in a profound anguish and alienation. To read…

I only had 30 minutes warning so I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked to have been for the interview but hopefully I won't make us all look like total fools for wanting to have chickens in our back yards! It'll be on their web site tomorrow in case you miss it tonight. They were heading off the the council meeting after they left here.

I got back from my week of field school on Saltspring late Sunday and spent all of last week playing farmer. I'll take some pics once the sun comes out again.
About half of our seedlings didn't make it. The stuff we planted right in the ground has done much better so I guess it isn't too cold after all. Won't bother planting the rest in pots. Still waiting to plant the tomatoes but everything else is either dead or in the ground now.

I have to go to Saltspring Island for the next week for a school thing so I was so happy to have such a beautiful day to play farming yesterday. Finally got the back bed weeded and transformed into our new berry garden. Planted strawberries and transplanted some very unhappy raspberry plants that were living in a shady spot in the front yard. Ran some netting all around it to keep the chickens and hopefully the dogs out. Check out the before and after pics:
