In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?: Victoria-Fraserview-Killarney

Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...: urban farming, localizing our economy, permaculture, free energy, potlucks, learning how to stop hurting the earth.

There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!): I'm a carpenter's assistant (pouring concrete/building forms), a C level welder, and a big guy with a strong back. I'd really like to help with urban farming, permaculture and energy efficient homes or the like

What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?: I have a crazy idea and I'm looking for people to help me refine it or tell me it can't work.

I think that someone with your skills in carpentry and other forms of construction could be really appreciated helping out with some community garden and permaculture initiatives. I'm involved in an initiative to get at least one new community garden started in Grandview-Woodland, which looks like it has a strong chance of happening this spring. Part of the plan is to construct some raised beds, and it would be great to have a carpenter who can show us how best to go about that. We'll also need a tool shed for the garden, and perhaps instead of buying some prefab toolshed we could construct one ourselves with the right guidance, preferably from recycled building materials. The Vancouver Tool Library is located just south of us on Commercial Street, so there would be no trouble obtaining the tools we need.

Anyways, please let me know if this is something that might interest you, and also please feel free to run your crazy idea by me if you like. This is the year of crazy ideas!
