In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?: Victoria-Fraserview-Killarney, Riley Park-South Cambie, Fairview

If you don't live in Vancouver or are in another neighbourhood or community we did not list, please tell us where home is.: but i spend a lot of time in all over the city!

Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...: I'm very interested in appropriate technology, and i think that existing methods have failed to make us healthier and happier. We need an educated urban peasantry, and if and when we get there we will reclaim some humanity.

I'm a studied and practiced technologist in mechanics and electronics, with way too many interests to be hopelessly ignorant about other things. I'd like to help build shelters, tools, vehicles, systems, methods, and ideas.

There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!): yes.

What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?: Everything. Closer lighter healthier cleaner freer more involved.

We're always glad to see new faces in our group, and as co-convenor I thought I’d give you a summary of what we’ve been working on over the past few months and how you can get involved.

At our first meeting last October, it emerged that concept of community currencies was of great interest to the group, and we decided that we would begin the process of planning a local currency for the Dunbar neighbourhood as a pilot project . Community currencies are forms of money developed by and for a community for various reasons, including relocalising and stimulating the economy, supporting community projects and non-profits, re-introducing a more social aspect to economic transactions, and more. Using the experiences gained from Dunbar, we hope to be able to eventually either expand the currency to other neighbourhoods, or replicate it to have multiple neighbourhood currencies throughout Vancouver.

Since that meeting, a number of members of this group have been working to determine how a community currency in Dunbar might work, including meetings with LETS and Community Way inventor Michael Linton (a member of LEN) and Janet Morris-Reade, Executive Director of the Dunbar BIA. Both are great, supportive allies in this venture.

I should also add that, although community currency has been our primary focus over the past

couple of months, it need not be the only project! There are many things that can be done to help
