Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Downtown, West End
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
apt balcony growing of food, learning what is edible n the surrounding nature, seed-sharing, potlucks, outreach, resiliency, peak oil, voluntary simplicity, reducing my global footprint, community-building, having fun while saving the world, etc.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I'm part-time self-employed right now so I have time to be an environmental & peace activist. I have degrees in social studies & curriculum & instruction & 12 years experience as an elementary teacher in Seattle & the US Peace Corps. I would be happy to provide free training to parents & educators of a powerful & organic way of teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. It's called "Doing Words" and it works like magic with people of all ages (especially young children and up into the writing process), and with all cultural backgrounds. It's especially helpful for teaching ESL (English as a 2nd language) to both children & adults. I also enjoy helping with clean-up at events. I live car-FREE in West End near English Bay & love this city & community! And I am not afraid of talking to strangers about Village Vancouver. I want all my neighbours & friends to know about Transition Towns! :-)
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I would like to see increased use of recycling & composting in the city, more tool sharing, more neighbourhood clean-ups, more city food growing, especially on balconies of apartments & rooftops, and a LOT more outreach to lonely neighbours who don't even know we exist.
I agree to read and abide by the Site Guidelines under the About tab on the navigation bar, remaining respectful in all communications on this web site.

Hi Karen

I went ahead and approved you as a new member, but it does probably make sense to go back in and change your profile. I would imagine it is fairly straightforward but haven't done it myself. If you have any questions you can always email [email protected].

There are lots of emergency prep meetings coming up including the ShakeOutBC next week on the 18th and then a talk on the Cascadia fault zone on the 7th of November at St. James community centre.

I'd really like to get more movement on the site and hope that we have a lot more activity posted in the near future.

Please let me know if there is anything in particular you are interested in, and better yet, keen on getting involved in and maybe taking a leadership role.

Cheers.
Ann

Hi Karen.

You and your new gmail are set up. Old account deleted. There is a weekly compost drop spot in front of the WECC every Saturday 10 am - 12 noon. We have a quick meeting from 10:00 - 10:30 am. there, with anyone available in the West End. Pot Luck coming soon. We want your ideas. Come out, or send me an email. Peace. [email protected]
