Occupy Vancouver Workshops and Participation at Vancouver Art Gallery

October 15, 2011 at 10am to October 31, 2011 at 7pm
Greetings everyone.I wanted to share some information on the upcoming Occupy Vancouver movement that starts on Oct 15th, 2011 (no set end date) and encourage interested and curious VVers to come and join us.It is intended to be a peaceful reclamation of public space in solidarity with what is taking place across the United States. People are also interested in teach-ins, workshops and experimenting in participatory democratic practices: grounding the movement, if you will, in local conditions.…See More

"Ditto- I'm totally interested but am a beginning gardener. Sounds like a great location to use as well. I'll be at the food network event so would love to discuss more then."

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
West End
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
All of the above, but I'm also really interested particularly in local currency movements and community and co-operative electricity.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)

What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I think we need to continue to develop the bike network, and the community gardens. At and more political level I think its vital to push back against market-based environmentalism wherein we just source 'green companies'- which means supporting more public and collective alternatives. So deepening sustainability in Vancouver means social justice work with community and labour organizations.
