"One of our 12 week old pullets has turned out to be a cockerel. Anyone want a 12 week old cockerel or know someone who would? He is extremely nice and probably our friendliest bird, a beautifully colored Ameracauna. He is free to a good home!"

"Just put my month olds outside into the coop. Any advice on what kitchen scraps are not so good for chickens? I know that they won't eat citrus or melon rinds, and there is conflicting information out there about onions and the brassicas. Of…"

North Shore Chickens

We believe backyard hens to be a positive change for the community, adding variety and value to our urban landscape, while reflecting the City and District of North Vancouver’s sustainable living and environmental mandates.See More

White Walnuts

Hi!  I've just moved here from Alberta and it appears I have a white walnut in my backyard.  I've been harvesting the walnuts, but I now have no idea how to keep them!  Some sites that I've googled say to husk the nuts, while others say to leave the husks on for the length of the drying time.  Does anyone out there have experience with white walnut harvest and preservation?  Great to be on here!EmilySee More

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
North Vancouver
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
urban agriculture/gardening, arts, urban homesteading, community gardening, wildcrafting, natural medicine, herbology, chickens
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Vegetable gardening/community gardens, urban chicken raising, group wildcrafting, herbology/natural medicine groups. I'm well versed in veg gardening and the fine arts, and reasonably knowledgeable about chickens and urban chicken raising.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Wildcrafting! Unless that's not new... Maybe there are TONNS of people doing it, I'm new to the area, but I haven't found anything on google.
