These lessons will provide a solid foundation for those interested in making cheese at home, or anyone who wants to know how their cheese is made. The workshop will emphasize a ‘natural cheesemaking’, with a focus on simple, DIY methods. David will also talk about raw milk, rennet-free cheeses and dairy ferments. At the end of the…See More

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Mount Pleasant, Sunset
I agree to read and abide by the Site Guidelines under the About tab on the navigation bar, remaining respectful in all communications on this web site.
Yes

I live a collective, community house in South Vancouver. My roomates and I are intensively gardening our entire yard, hoping to grow enough food to feed ourselves and others too.

I am personally very interested in permaculture, and I have taken my permacultre certification course - but that really just means I'm a certified newbie! Some of my interests are: greywater and rainwater harvesting, composting human waste, backyard chickens, sheet multching and no-dig gardening...

I am taking the EYA beeking mentorship.

I'm also an organizer of a youth arts festival, which happens in East Van every year: IGNITE! Youth Festival. I'm involved in several projects though the Purple Thistle, including Eat The Rich community kitchen.

I give sex-ed and anti-homophobia and transphobia workshops in high schools.

I would love to connect with other food growers and those interested in VV issues, who live in the south fraser/sunset area.

Hi Ander,
I am part of a group of people who have applied to the city of Vancouver to start a new Community Garden at Cambie Park, which is on Cambie & 54th. We are looking for residents of the neighborhood to sign a petition to show their support for the garden. I hope you would be able to sign it and also point to other residents in the area. Please call me 604-5123814 or email me [email protected] if you can help us with this effort.
thanks,
Keren

Hi Ander ~ Thanks for replying to the Zero Waste post about the backyard composting project. It is part of a 3-part pilot program being done for the City, looking at different ways of building neighbour-to-neighobur connections to encourage backyard composting. There is nothing posted with details on the project yet, but I will get them out very soon.

Welcome, Ander!

As you can see, we are just beginning to build an on-line community for Village Vancouver, and organize our extensive activities more openly and collaboratively through this site. Please feel free to contribute to a discussion, attend or even enter a new event, join a working group, or even form a Village.

Sunset does not have a local village formed yet, but your ranks are growing with now 3 Village Vancouver members, including Helen Beer and Ian Wood. Meanwhile, come to any event posted on our Events page, connect with other Village Vancouver members, and see what you can learn and do. You may join any of the existing four local neighbourhood villages.

Also, please update your home page ("My Page" above) with some brief comments about your interests or a short bio. This will help us all connect with people with similar interests in sustainability, transition, or other activities. Maybe find a nice photo to upload, too. :-)
