Village Vancouver Transition Society is looking to add energetic and enthusiastic new members, including a new Treasurer, to our active, dedicated, and collaborative team of Directors.
The VV Board is comprised of several volunteers and Village membership is diverse. Board members provide guidance for the society, and are expected to actively contribute a minimum of 10 hrs./month (including monthly board meetings), cooperating with our Executive Director to help build organizational capacity to better carry out our program priorities, increase member engagement (e.g. more member projects and other initiatives, and an increased number of volunteers), and ensure financial accountability, adequate funding, and effective stewardship of the society's resources. Participation in one or more of our working groups is encouraged.
Our 2014-16 program priorities include 1) strengthening the capacity of local villages and constituencies, 2) identifying, developing, and nurturing projects and other initiatives that demonstrate the principles of sustainability, community resilience, and regeneration, and 3) developing related learning opportunities - for example, skills based workshops.
If you work well with others, are passionate about the vision and goals of Village Vancouver and the worldwide permaculture inspired Transition Town movement (www.transitionnetwork.org), and share a commitment to building community resilience through positive, just, and effective responses, then we hope that you'll consider applying.
To apply, please submit a letter of interest to [email protected] by March 15, 2015. Include a brief bio and/or resume, including information about any relevant skills and experience in areas such as advocacy, organizing, sustainable community development, ecological, environmental, and/or social justice work, connecting with your neighbours to make your neighbourhood a better place, outreach and promotion, fundraising and grant writing, administration, project development and support, membership development and engagement, editing and newsletter production, website management and technical support, as well as any past or current service as a board or committee member, or as a volunteer or staff person in other groups, organizations, or businesses.
Please feel free to mention any related challenges you've faced and successes you've achieved, why you feel you would make a good board member, and anything else you'd like us to know about you. Persons applying for the Treasurer's position should also include information on experience with bookkeeping and/or accounting, and with overseeing the management and reporting of an organization’s finances.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Ross
