Event Description

Share a meal with several neighbours, prepared by a neighbour.

A series of 12 neighbourhood Drop-in "Spaghetti" Nights hosted by a dozen Kits Villagers in different parts of Kits over the next 4 1/2 months, followed by a community-wide Drop-in on November 29.. Hosts will provide the meal and track where the ingredients come from, and we'll collate how local our eating habits are at the community gathering. (They’re called Drop-in “Spaghetti” nights, because many of the ones we've held in the past in the past have involved serving spaghetti, but they can really involve any foods - for instance, Drop-in Rutabaga Night.)

Open to anyone, the drop-ins are especially aimed at neighbours living close to one another (within 2 or 3 blocks of a host), and, in many cases, the ingredients will sourced fresh and locally -- for instance, from the Westside Community Food Market at 8th and Vine on Thursdays. (Village will be tabling there with the Seed Library and other goodies every week except for a couple in late August -- stop by and say hello, swap some seeds...)

The July 5th drop-in is now full. Stay tuned for dates of future dropins and more details. If you live in Kits and would like to participate in a future drop-in spaghetti night, please RSVP here or send an email with your name and cross-streets to Ross at  [email protected]. Everyone is also welcome to come to come to the monthly Kits Village potlucks on the 2nd Sundays of the month. RSVP here for August Potluck.

Supported by a Green Neighbourhood Small Grant from the Vancouver Foundation. (Administered by Kits Neighbourhood House.)

Transportation

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

Housing

A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
