Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
The Oak Street Farmers' Market at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver is the newest thing to hit the organic food scene in Vancouver. This brand new market boasts an awe-inspiring list of the best organic food vendors in the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland. “We're excited to be building on Vancouver's vibrant local food system with the first official farmers' market in South Vancouver,” said Grant Watson, Chair of the market’s committee. “And, we’re the only farmers’ market in town with all organic farm products.". As one local resident and avid market supporter stated, “We don’t have quick access to farm-fresh food in Vancouver, so markets like the Oak Street Farmers' Market are a great way to access local, fresh and organic produce.”
The market is an initiative of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, an organization that strongly believes in increasing the food security of the City of Vancouver. With Vancouver's goal to become the “greenest city in the world”, the addition of this market will help to increase the food security of local Vancouver residents. The market will be held every Wednesday starting June 1st from 3 to 7pm at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver. Vendors will offer the best organic produce from around the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland and will offer a variety of tasty prepared foods.
Everyone invited to attend the market’s Grand Opening Celebration on June 1st. Speakers include: Andrea Reimer—Vancouver City Councilor, Rex Weyler—author and Greenpeace International Co-Founder, and Mary Forstbauer—Organic Farming Leader.
So come and visit the Oak Street Farmers' Market at its Grand Opening Celebration on June 1st at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver (Oak and West 49th). As the folks at the market boast, “Our food is so fresh, the farmer is still attached!”
