Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
Hey there,
We have a chance to save a forested area the size of Maine from destruction by Canada's Tar Sands, but we need a lot of people to chime in to do it.
Dole and Chiquita produce half of the world's bananas, and because bananas require so much fuel to reach our fruit bowls, we need banana producers to use the cleanest fuels available to protect our health and our planet. Can you ask Dole and Chiquita to reject the Tar Sands in favor of cleaner energy solutions? Click here to sign the giant banana: http://bit.ly/nEFG7h
Already operations in Canada's Tar Sands:
- have produced the world’s largest ‘open pit’ toxic lakes—now covering an area larger than Washington DC.
- consume more water than six million people use in a year.
- threaten the health of communities living downwind and downstream, both in Canada and the US.
- generate more global warming pollution than fuels from conventional oil. (In the production phase alone, Tar Sands oil emits 3-5 times more greenhouse gas than conventional oil.)
Can you help push Dole and Chiquita towards cleaner energy solutions?
