Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
The town of Sedgwick, Maine, population 1,012 (according to the 2000 census), has become the first town in the United States to pass a Food Sovereignty ordinance. In doing so, the town declared their right to produce and sell local foods of their choosing, without the oversight of State or federal regulation.

I wonder if our laws in Canada would allow for that sort of autonomy?
In the U.S., legal opinion strongly favours the rights of the individual, whereas in Canada we have the 'slippery slope' of "common good" which allows federal agencies to inspect or investigate pretty well anything they want to. I suspect that there would be no problem declaring food sovereignty, just so long as the big business didn't feel threatened by it.
At this point in the revolution, it might be unwise to wave a red flag in front of the political bull. I would rather that we make food security an indisputable fact. Were we able to achieve this, the food industry and agribusiness could not complain that they had been denied anything because they couldn't quantify the cost of our dissention.
