Evergreen is inviting Vancouver youth between the ages of 15 and 20 are invited to participate in Architects of a Green Legacy - an 8 week project designed to build bridges between communities, develop youths' skills and to transform the spaces we live in.
As an Architect, you will work with a team of diverse youth to learn, share ideas and develop a neighbourhood greening and art project that promotes creativity and celebrates community diversity. The way you run your program will be up to your team– together you will decide when and where you will meet, how to spend your money, and how your project can best support cultural identities and the environment.
Evergreen is seeking youth with an interest in environmental stewardship, artistic expression and cultural diversity - and who are passionate about making a difference! During the project, you will:
- Attend training sessions with Evergreen on: project development and management, environmental sustainability, group facilitation, conflict resolution, multiculturalism, intercultural communication and anti-discrimination, Basic First Aid
-Work cooperatively with a team of six other youth from across diverse Vancouver neighbourhoods to bring our urban orchard to life
-Attend team meetings and participate in team activities for a minimum of 2 hours a week over 2 months, beginning the first week of July
-Contribute to team decisions and project development
-Encourage creative expression and open communication within the team
Architects will receive an honorarium ($250 for team members, $400 for team leaders), as well as volunteer hours. Upon completion, you will be eligible to continue on with phase 2 and 3 of citizenU, an anti-racism, anti-discrimination and community-building program organized by the City of Vancouver. Through citizenU, you will gain leadership skills that you can apply in your everyday life - and will be learning by doing, not just sitting and talking! citizenU will also help you build a strong, large network of peers and adult allies that you can work with over the coming years.
