My interests are really local: like sharing our grapes with our neighbours, and growing beans along the wire fence that I share with my next-door neighbour. We have a neighbour across the street who completely ignores his property and says "Maybe next year" to cultivating his yard with City Farm Boy. He's open to us cultivating part of the boulevard in front of his house, which is missing a tree... We had our first block Party in August this year. My goal is to have our street safe for children to play on, which includes all the other things I want; neighbours knowing each other, caring about what grows, being comfortable hanging out a bit, beauty, slower traffic. Eventually better earthquake preparedness will come out of it, along with less reliance on cars, I hope... I like the idea of eating locally but have a ways to go at getting there. Our family cycles and buses almost everywhere, and we use the Cooperative auto network for group trips, heavy loads, and some surprises that come up. Some times knowing someone who does something easily helps make it possible to do it ourselves, so that’s why I am interested in this site.
