Permaculture Village

Transition is based on, and inspired by,  Permaculture principles. Permaculture is permanent agriculture and permanent culture. We will be approaching 'creating sustainable habitat' in many different ways: regular design & demonstration projects; Social permaculture; workshops. Permablitzes, Blitzes or Permaculture Energy Transfer or Pet Day are days that we go on site collectively create systems which cycle energy toward win win win economy. Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Renfrew-Collingwood
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, permaculture, transit, arts, healing, sacred economics, placemaking, community organizing (e.g. Metro Vancouver Alliance), cooperative economics, healing/wellness coops-collectives
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I hope to follow up from my Ph.D. research where I explored the relationship between our socio-economic environment and youth mental health by working with others in building alternative economic forms aligned with permaculture principles.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Many ideas-initial ideas that come to mind: increasing accessibility of transit (ideally investing to make it free for everyone); placemaking (reclaiming our commons); expansion of urban agriculture; continued expansion of bike lanes; development of a sustainable direct democracy network (e.g. Metro Vancouver Alliance)...
