Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Hastings-Sunrise
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Urban Agriculture - yard farming; food preservation techniques; backyard chickens; permaculture.

Energy descent for the average household.

Affordable housing for all.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Yes but limited time; I have a 14-month baby and another on the way!
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Lots but in particular affordable housing (vs. social housing) for those of modest income. If we don't address this, many people leave Vancouver and commute back and forth which has big GHG impacts. Other countries like Australia and the UK are much better at addressing this issue than we are and there are lots of tools that we could use here.

Hello!

Since you have indicated Hastings-Sunrise as your neighbourhood location, I thought I would let you know that we are in the embryonic stages of creating a Hastings-Sunrise village and have set up a Village Group here at Village Vancouver to facilitate that process.

I am aware that there are lots of neighbourhood groups and activities already in place in Hastings Sunrise and hope that in some way a Hastings-Sunrise Village can help to provide some networking between groups rather than competing as another entity, but also can carry out activities that might be of interest to the other groups as well. Really, it's wide open as to what we do as a village entity... but we need participation to determine what that will be!

Please go over to the Villages1 Tab - there you will find Hastings Sunrise Village and can join up and participate in the discussion - and also feel free to post Hastings-Sunrise activities and events there for others to see.
