Survey for homesteading store

Hi Chicken keepers, I'm running a survey this week for my proposed urban homesteading store that would carry, among other things, supplies and equipment for starting up backyard coops.  If anyone has a few minutes to fill out the online questionnaire, I'd sure appreciate it.  You can find it at www.HomesteadersEmporium.ca.ThanksRickSee More

Survey for homesteading store, to include beekeeping supplies

The title pretty much says it, but I'm running a survey this week for my proposed urban homesteading store.  I'd like to carry beekeeping supplies and equipment, among other things.  If anyone has time to complete the survey by this weekend, it would really help me out and help the project along.  Find it at www.HomesteadersEmporium.ca.Cheers!RickSee More

Permaculture Village

Transition is based on, and inspired by,  Permaculture principles. Permaculture is permanent agriculture and permanent culture. We will be approaching 'creating sustainable habitat' in many different ways: regular design & demonstration projects; Social permaculture; workshops. Permablitzes, Blitzes or Permaculture Energy Transfer or Pet Day are days that we go on site collectively create systems which cycle energy toward win win win economy. Food forests provide abundant gardens and parks…See More

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Kitsilano
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Transit, cycling, homesteading, learning workshops
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I'd like to join the Kitsilano Transition Village, beekeeping network, learning opportunities, and the chicken coop co-op. I know a lot about making beer, and a tiny bit about a lot of other things.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I'm most interested in taking the mystery and intimidation out of food production and processing. A couple years ago my roommate and I started a few homesteading projects - we fermented wine from grapes in our backyard, made a few wheels of cheese, and built a top-bar beehive, among other things. What we found in each of these cases was that there was a steep learning curve, and that it was difficult to find good information and materials except by going all over town and browsing internet forums. I'd like to see these types of activity become more accessible to a wider range of people. I'd like to open up a permanent, retail storefront that could pick up where community groups leave off by hosting introductory homesteading workshops in an environment that brings equipment and supplies for many related activities together in a reliably accessible space.

Hi Rick, I hope all is going well with your plans for the Homesteader's Emporium! I would like to include examples of "Transition Trades" or "Transition Enterprises" in the VV newsletter on a regular basis, and was wondering if you would like to contribute a piece about your store to either the April newsletter (in which case I'd need it by the 27th at the latest) or for the following newsletter. You can get in touch with me at [email protected].

Cheers,

Jordan
