Permaculture Village

Transition is based on, and inspired by,  Permaculture principles. Permaculture is permanent agriculture and permanent culture. We will be approaching 'creating sustainable habitat' in many different ways: regular design & demonstration projects; Social permaculture; workshops. Permablitzes, Blitzes or Permaculture Energy Transfer or Pet Day are days that we go on site collectively create systems which cycle energy toward win win win economy. Food forests provide abundant gardens and parks…See More

Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...

There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I am interested in getting involved in Permaculture Vancouver, Vancouver design nerds, roots on the roof (UBC group), etc. I just moved to Vancouver to pursue my Master of Landscape Architecture. I have my Permaculture Design Certificate and my fair share of practise implementing permaculture principles via community building, urban gardening and natural building (cob, straw bale, cordwood, etc). I am interested in getting involved with this movement in Vancouver whilst I pursue my Masters.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
At this point, being new to Vancouver, I am unable to answer this question!

Hi Kait,

Welcome to Village Vancouver! We have some permaculture plots at Cottonwood Community Garden in Strathcona and are looking for one or two more volunteers. We hold 2 or 3 work parties a month. If this is something you might be interested in participating in, let me know.

Take care,
