What goes into our food today, what aremthe issues. Everything relates to Food: how clean is the water, or is it a chemical soup? Are the dams stopping the fish runs? (Luckily we are working that one out now- big dams being removed in washington, and water diverted in Canada); industry pollution; and how is Food being made and packaged. If you are thinking about having children, you will want to know... And work on these issues... Otherwise you will end up with sickness, infertility, disease,…See More

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Hastings-Sunrise
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Everything - I am a very spiritual person, and wish we still walked barefoot upon earthen ground. I am interested possibly having cobb be a focus in our neighbour hood if other are also interested.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
natural building
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
energy - trash recycling for one - hire the unemployed and unhoused people to sort recycling if needed. gives everyone a job and keep V clean and responsible.

Thanks Jill.

And did you want any cardboard? I forget who it was that did.

last spring when i started to prepare my garden i discovered that a pile of leaves i had raked from my neighborhood was full of lovely worms and so i happily dug them into my garden along with alternating layer of grass clipping and discard green leaves from the grocery grew fantastic pole beans, cherry tomatoes and squash Have bought a box of heavy duty black plastic contractors bags, have two big plastic shovels and a few rakes, if you would like to spend some happy hours raking up leaves with the kids  and making a big pile to compost ,would you bring cups and a thermos of hot cocoa, rsvp

Hi Jill!

Thanks for your comment.  Yes I'd love to chat!  I too wish we still walked barefoot on the earth - I do as often as I can.

Food

Local, organic, rural, and/or urban, food production is a mainstay of life, and doing it well leads to wellness. From farm to kitchen, discussions relating to food--and the community arising around it--belong here.

Transportation

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

Housing

A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
