West Point Grey Transition Village

We garden at Aberthau Garden (which includes the W. Point Grey Preschool garden, Aberthau artists-in-residence LocoMotoArt's heritage bean patch, and our demonstration permaculture garden), located behind Aberthau Mansion, just off of Marine. We hold about 25 workshops a year in the mansion and garden, maintain a community seed library and run a seed savers club, organize native edibles walks, hold potlucks, participate in the Pt. Grey Fiesta and Westside Food Festivals, and organize an annual open house and a harvest celebration at the garden, which includes harvest straw art, live music, and a tour of LocoMotoArt's studio. This year, we also held a C150 birthday potluck, and we kicked off the permaculture garden with a large permaculture blitz in 2015 (sort of like an old fashioned barn raising, where a bunch of neighbours and other community members join together to create something in a day or two).

Our community partners/collaborators include West Pt. Grey Community Centre, Vancouver Parks Board, Westside Neighbourhood Food Network, LocoMotoArt, Home Hardware (on 10th), Westside Neighbourhood Small Grants, City of Vancouver, Rogue Folk Music Club, E.A.R.T.H. and Company, Fermentoring, New Horizons, and the Grow Local program.
