We’d love to see you at the PNE. Our Home Harvest Farms exhibit is in the Barn with the animals and we’re right beside the pig races. I’m not sure how I feel about that. On display, we have a…Continue

The term "Transition Town Trades Initiative" (TTTI) was originally placed into the commons by Philip Be'er (the writer of this piece), as a way to describe businesses like Home Harvest Farms (HHF) (www.homeharvestfarms.com). HHF develops and manufactures planter systems that are designed to assist in the transition to a low carbon existence by facilitating broad scale self education about food cultivation. This piece is a first attempt to define the concept of TTTI and we expect that the concept will evolve as people like yourself raise questions and add input to produce greater clarity.

  • A TTTI is an independently owned business entity and does not need not be a charity or a social enterprise.
  • The TTTI is designed to serve a valuable function in society during this time of transition.
  • The focus of a TTTI is weighted more towards social good than the accumulation of money, in part, because the value of money is questionable is an environment where collaboration between people is more valuable than competition between people or between groups of people.
  • Many of the TTTI's clients are expected to be members of Transition Towns and Transition Town Initiatives.
  • Business decisions in the TTTI are informed by an awareness of the impacts of Climate Change, Peak Oil ( and other peak events like peak gas, phosphorus, fresh water), and Population Growth.
  • By design, TTTI business activities result in net reduction of our collective Ecological Footprint.

Please contribute to the refinement of the TTTI term and let us know if you have a business that is a TTTI.

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

Housing

A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
