Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
Hi I am looking for hardwood logs, especially oak or alder, for growing mushrooms. Does anyone have any tips on where to find some?

I am on the hunt for logs to inoculate as well, and have also been told that birch is a good choice.
Essentially I see this as a hunting trip to the outskirts of town (North Van, Delta, or maybe the Vancouver Ravine) to look for fallen, younger trees. I have many saws (battery electric and hand), so it's just a matter of finding a likely location.
Would you be interested in such a scavenger hunt sometime? Depending on the size of the log(s) you want, I can also get a trailer.
Sorry for the late response. If you haven't gone already I would definitely like to go log hunting with you. I don't think we'll need a trailer, I don't need very many logs, and I can give you some money for gas. I'm free most days during the week and some weekends.
Sasha, I am just working out of town until Sunday. Maybe we could go hunting next week or the weekend after that. I have been collecting suggestions for likely locations. I am not sure I can identify alder, but oak and birch are easy. Given what we are looking for, almost any old stand of trees will have large fallen branches or dead trunks to harvest.
I'll get in touch when I am back.
I have another delay. I have to work out of town again all this week, back late Saturday the 9th. I'd still like to hook up soon to go mushroom log hunting.
