Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
Hi everyone,
I am new to the neighborhood so I apologize if there's already something like this.
I just relocated from Colorado, where I was part of a feed co-op that got custom-mixed soy-free certified organic feed. Soy-free feed is important to some people with soy allergies (or other reasons for avoiding it).
Every 6 weeks the leader of the co-op would solicite orders, and then people would bring tubs/bags/etc. and pick up the weight they ordered. The feed came in "super-sacks" (the really big ones). We had starter, grower, layer, field peas, even some goat and other types of feed. But we could start with just layer. I already emailed Canadian Organic Feeds (the Chilliwack one) to see if they could do this for us.
A fork lift, pickup truck, and a large balance-type scale would be needed. The layer was 35 cents/pound, and I think starter was 50 cents/pound. Whereas other stores were selling 50 lb bags for like $35. (So if we can make this work, it could cost HALF).
Please let me know if anyone is interested. I would be happy to facilitate until this gets going. I have a large yard and some driveway space, but as it's shared by an apartment building and three character homes so it would be better if delivery could take place at a private property.
I would also be interested in the straw/hay co-op that I saw mentioned in some posts.
Thanks,
Alyssa
