Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
This picture shows all the varieties and quantities I harvested August 29 (and there's still more). If you're wondering about the brown tip tomatoes, those are Ardwynna Paste tomatoes with blossom end rot. It is a deficiency in the soil and the cure is to dissolve epsom salts and water, and give the afflicted plant a dose.
I appear to have a lot of slicing/eating tomatoes and few paste/sauce tomatoes. Oh well, that means I will have to buy a bunch of tomatoes from the market for sauce and canning.
Wow, there is nothing like eating your own ripe tomatoes. The taste panel of Peter and I both agreed that we favored Elfin Cherry, Black Krim, Victoria and Taxi. All were rich and tasty, some sweeter than others. We were not impressed with Pollock which had a rather thick skin. I will be saving seed of my favorites for next year.

Thanks for the comments Randy. I still consider myself a novice. My philosophy is it's all a grand experiment.
A bunch of my tomatoes split (overwatered ?) so they're going into the compost and into the food forest, where their seed will sprout up, acclimatize and bear fruit. This year I had tomato seedlings sprouting up all over the place and some of these babies are even producing fruit.
I will have some Black Krim, Taxi, Victoria tomato seed for your seedbank.
Awesome photo of some great-looking, very local produce!
In year when it has been very difficult to grow tomatoes, you appear to have the magic touch (or a hot balcony). June's average high temperature was a degree below normal at 18.7, and weak incident solar radiation kept regional ground temperatures so far below historical norms that many professional farmers in the Lower Mainland decided not to plant many crops. So, in light of this, I know who I am going to visit in order to learn how to grow food in climate-challenged Vancouver.
