One of the most common reasons that I hear as to why people want to learn about herbal medicines is some version of “I want an alternative to antibiotics.”
Some folks are looking for something that won’t give them diarrhea. Others don’t like getting a yeast infection after every course of antibiotics regardless of what they were for. And…

Stop feeding
The first rule with fish. If you have a problem of any kind, stop feeding your fish until the problem is resolved. This may seem cruel but its not. Fish are cold blooded and do not need to eat everyday. They can go without food for even a month.
Humans are warm blooded and most of the…

A Different Way of Looking at the Evidence—and Some of the Danger Signs
We are at a critical point in the evolution of life on Planet Earth. This writer sees more than enough evidence that many danger signs are “flashing red”, and thus more than enough evidence to support the need for a Planetary Distress Signal.
However…any number of samples of public discourse from the most popular mass media platforms would easily demonstrate that a significant majority of people on the…

It is a rare event when our local media, of any stripe, publish writing of such honesty and progressive weight on most all of the issues of Transition. We wish to celebrate just such an instance by reprinting a Tyee article here by two very talented writers, Christine Boyle and Seth Klein. Village Vancouver also wishes to thank The Tyee staff and editor for making such journalism possible.…

Hello all,
I've been involved in a year-long community research project on urban farming in Vancouver, and as part of it, the Vancouver Urban Farming Society has brought together a team of stellar community surveyors from across the City of Vancouver to collect valuable survey data from people in their neighbourhood on their perceptions and experiences of urban farming.
In addition to the work of our team of community surveyors – we are also circulating the survey online to try…

Hello, I am hoping for a collaborative brainstorm. I am looking for examples (hopefully local) of individuals who have been successful working in or owning their own environmentally sustainable business. I deeply want to work for sustainable/earth-friendly organizations but also need financial stability. I am looking for inspiration, stories, career ideas, role models, and/or mentors. Is there anyone you can think of?
