Hey Michael,
You missed a good canning workshop Thursday night. Where are you living nowadays?
Cheers,
Ross
Welcome to Main Street, Michael!
We have a community potluck at Little Mountain Neighbourhood House, 24th and Main, every first Tuesday of the month, so that's this coming August 2nd from 6 to 8. The presentation this month may be on chickens, but we are still working this out. Anyway, the food is good, often VERY local (grown by urban farmers in the immediate area), and people come from a wide range of communities (old, young, East and South Asian, etc).
We do a short presentation every time on something food-related, and we have free food seeds and sometimes seedlings to hand out for free each month.
We have LOTS of chickens and bees in the 'hood, a real centre of excellence for these urban ag forces in the city. We also put 11 tents and 30 volunteers on Main Street for CarFree Day and hope to replicate this on Mount Pleasant Day (Sept 17th), which is also on a closed Main Street. Helping out with this great presentation of the full Village Vancouver village would be awesome.
Someday this fall we may hold a potluck for 300 people again at Heritage Hall, which we have done twice in the past two years. Talk about a spread!
Finally, Main Street is the home of the Two Block DIet, which is an amazing collective of urban farmers. If you need advice on permaculture for your yard or patio or deck or balcony, they've got it.
All in all, we have a lot of fun. Just let us know what you'd like to do, and what you need.
