- I don't live in Van any more, but have a feel for it, because I spent 30 yrs. there, have close friends and family there.
I live in a village of 1,000 where chickens aren't allowed(!) and so have been watching the chicken scene in Van with great interest; it's through that interest that I discovered VV.
- There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)

- I'd like to see a community garden in every Vancouver school yard, so that kids might grow up feeling a connection to gardening, to the earth.

Welcome from afar.
When I saw where you lived, it sadly made me think of Vancouver's hideous response to all forms of waste: send it far away. We dump our partially-treated, and often untreated sewer water right into the Salish Sea and Burrard Inlet, and dump "solid waste" into small communities in the interior, especially ones with large First Nation's populations.
What's to be done, other than reducing our waste so radically, that we can compost all of it in Vancouver?
Some of us are trying. I'm not sure you'd notice, however.
