Surrey
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Hello!

I am interested in urban agriculture, community building and having fun while saving the world!
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Hello,

Here in Surrey, we are in big transition, from what WAS whalley to what is becoming Surrey City Center.

I am good at talking to people and making people feel at ease. I am good at asking for donations from big business. I am good writing grants and playing with kids.

I teach yoga to all ages.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I see a big opportunity here in Surrey City Center where the school district has just renovated an Elementary School into a Learning Center for teens grades 10-12.

Our neighbourhood is a little nervous about this, given the high density of drugs and petty crime in the area and the numbers of teens that will be walking through our already vulnerable neighbourhood.

The playground attched to the school site has just been wiped out, demolished, a flat bed now of dirt. It is big and brown and waiting for something NEW to grow. I started to liason with the Learning Center's priciple in June and would like now to propose a project of Urban Agriculture , Wildcrafting, and a Co-op Community Bicycle Mechnics Project. I would like to see HUB involved.

I am looking into government incentives for gardning in schools. I would like to present a cohesive proposal to the Surrey School District that would challenge their power but reinforce it to do good.

If you have any information, pointers, tips or leads, I would greatly appreciate all offerings.
