In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Surrey
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
I'm mostly interested in urban agriculture and homesteading.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Not sure as I don't know what is needed.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I would like to legalize backyard chickens as well as help people grow their own food.

Hi Mary-Anne,
Welcome to VillageVancouver and VillageSurrey. I share the same concerns as yours about people being able to raise backyard chickens and grow their own food. It is about food autonomy and food security which we don't have much and have to depend on the market economy which is more about the bottom line rather than our health, nutrition, well-being, and many other values in our life that real food is about.
I was at the Surrey Farmer's Market yesterday and met a number of vendors who are similarly concerned and that is why they try to participate in that alternative market. Unfortunately, the market is small and the general moral is not very high. But I did meet a number of people who seemed rather eager to help with such issues.
But first we need to organize a bit. The folks at VillageVancouver are ahead of us and can potentially provide some guidance and we also have some valuable local resources that we can tap into once we show some serious interest. I am hoping we could plan an organizational meeting to get to know each other, address our concerns, and plan some joint project(s) in the next 1-2 weeks. Please contact me at 778-578-6300 for further details. Cheers, Behrouz.
