Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Kitsilano
If you don't live in Vancouver or are in another neighbourhood or community we did not list, please tell us where home is.
N/a
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Urban Agriculture, permaculture, urban homesteading, organizing events, community-building, learning from local indigenous groups
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I would love to participate in anything agriculture and community with a specific desire to learn from those who have worked this land for centuries. I would love to learn more about the edible and medicinal plants of the area, as well as mushrooms. I would love to try to standardize some permaculture concepts so that more households can apply them easily.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Vancouver is very green and almost every house has a garden well tended to by its owners, the only thing is these gardens are mostly landscaping and esthetic plants when they would be filled with edible and medicinal plants. I believe if more people were aware of certain medicinal plants and processes such as making tinctures and infusions, they could add a very important layers to community health

There are so many fun projects to be done, especially some involving children
identifying plants, showcasing the cycle of plants from seed to harvest, aromatherapy, art using natural foraged materials etc.

i'd just like to look ahead and be more prepared for the changes we desperately need, be more informed
