In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Maple Ridge
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
I'm trying my best to do some backyard sustainable homesteading. I would really love to raise some hen's for egg's but would be destroyed if they got siezed due to the bylaws. My main focus I guess would be to get these bylaws changed in my area.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I believe in the statement "think globally, act locally". I would really like to get a Village Maple Ridge, or Village Tri-cities group going. As stated above a top priority for me is backyard chickens. I feel that the city of MR has no right to deny me the opportunity of rasing hens for organic, inexpensive, sustainable eggs. Not to mention knowing that my hen's are treated humanely. And god forbid if any natural disaster were to occur...I would at least have eggs to eat.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Again...Vancouver proper has approved backyard chickens...maple ridge has not. Personally I have enough space that I don't need a community garden...but I feel this is something we are also lacking in maple ridge. Very close to my home is a condominium building...I feel sorry for them looking down on my garder with nowhere to grow their own.
