Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Downtown
If you don't live in Vancouver or are in another neighbourhood or community we did not list, please tell us where home is.
Gastown
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Creating easier access to healthy natural food to eat, make community meals with, sell at booths. Providing community residents with creative ways to eat healthy when the many, many barriers in the DTES often prevent this. Actually I am interested in everything listed above, some more than others but that's mainly due to not having an abundance of personal knowledge about certain areas. I am interested in learning and teaching others what I've learned. I have a big heart and a big mouth so I'm a rock star when it comes to empowering others in the community with information and ideas to help people help themsves. Information is useless unless its paired with relativity and passion.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Ok well as stated above, I'm an outgoing person with heaps of passion brewing inside me with regards to the many areas transition reaches. I'm a writer, an environmentalist, an advocate for those who may have been born with an unfortunately small voice, and perhaps those missing a proverbial backbone. I worked as a street canvassing supervisor for some years and led a few personal, community based, recycling initiatives back home in T.O.
I have recently landed in Vancouver after touring all up and down the west coast of Canada and the U.S and was able to visit and partake in random "Food not Bombs" -ish type groups/ events and adversely notice and not partake in some practices that are shockingly still in place in "Progressive" cities.
So, in an organic nutshell, I'm a writer, new to Vancouver, looking to pour some creative energy into some new projects and meet some new like-minded people!!! And also I just watched the transition documentary from the library this afternoon and I got quite excited 😆
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Well I live in gastown, so what I see daily is quite polarized. I'd like to shed light on the plastic bags still in use here, there seems to be a complete ignorance to that issue. In the 9 months I've lived here I've only witnessed a handful of people bring their own. And on the other side of the scale, introduce some awareness surrounding the level of waste and litter left lying around my neighbour hood by people living just slightly above or below the law thinking rules and community programs do not apply to them. I guess try to bridge the difference between the two with a sense of community and cohabitation.
