In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Burnaby
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
My husband and I have interest in all of the above especially food/urban agriculture, energy efficient buildings and of course having fun while saving the world!
Like many my husband and I are tired of paying a premium for a lifestyle that we aren't even crazy about. We are currently home owners in Burnaby but wish to sell, maybe relocate and live in a tiny house while we finish university. We may relocate and buy a detached house down line, park the tiny home on our property and rent it out to continue offering affordable living to ourselves and others.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I am interested in many areas to volunteer my help, anywhere I can be of use anyway. I want to help grow the tiny house community and bring more awareness to it because we believe it what its all about. My husband and I are very new when to tiny houses so we are looking to get well educated in them.
I am very quick read in anything really so a jack of all trades if you will. I am quite strong physically and mentally as I've lived a lot for my age. I am great working with others as well as under pressure. I have a real passion for fighting for what is right so I can be a bit intense at times but in a good way. I won't go on listing but I have a lot to offer, really, and I want to share it all.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Just anything that helps make living more affordable so that people can have a better quality of life. Its very difficult to plan for your future when you are unable contribute to your savings even when earning a decent income.I wish there were more available ways to grow your own food in urban areas such as, more community gardens where you can rent a plot and changes in strata allowing the use of raised beds etc whether you own or rent within a strata. I am chronically ill and sometimes I have trouble working for long consecutive periods of time and this really hits you financially not to mention your career and long term plans, yet most people with severe health problems are forced to live in cities where the cost of living is higher in order to receive proper ongoing care which can come with extra expenses, big ones. I know what it is l like to suffer and struggle to get by and I've worked hard to get to the point I am at now so I wish to help others and myself build a more honest, enjoyable and economical life whether your healthy or battling illness.
