In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Burnaby
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Growing food is a main interest for me as I have recently turned a section of my yard into a vegetable garden for this coming season. Permaculture is also high on the list as ecological preservation is very important to me. Lastly energy related topics are also top of mind.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I have worked in the plastic packaging industry for years Servicing the food industry. I have an extensive network of people that work in agriculture and food processing. My skills are somewhat diverse as I have diverse interests. I am strong in communication, project management and love to get my hands dirty. As for the groups I am interested in being a part of or contributing towards I am still investigating but food and energy are standouts.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I would like to see more ecological design in our urban planning and expansion with the usage of alternative construction materials and techniques to preserve resources and generate less carbon and capture more energy. Second to that would be more community gardens. One of my ideas for resiliency is to create bee habitats or safe zones so that there are stronger colonies for future generations.
