Hi there, we got hens when our guy was little... found amerucanas (the hybrid kind) to be quite gentle. especially compared to rhode island reds. plus they lay blue green eggs.

We picked ours up as chicks last year in surrey at a big garden centre - name is escaping me but it's on the VV resource list. Kept them inside til they were about 6 weeks then transitioned to the coop. You could buy them older though so they can go outside right away. they also had some one year olds.

If you want to cruise by to see our setup this weekend, you'd be welcome - we're up near Selkirk Elem. Try me at 604.329.1879, we're in and out all weekend.

    Cheers, Tamara
