    Hi Ross,

Okay- I'm a bit of a pest- how to I join the beekeeping group? It doesn't seem to come as an option under groups.
  • Waleed Giratalla

Hi Ross, thanks for your message. How do I join the Kits group?
  • Sonja Mulabdic

Thanks for organizing the potluck Ross. I will be away from June 10 - 15 or so... I hope I'm in town when you meet for the potluck.
  • Lawrence Boxall

Yep, I got one from Shauna

are you up for a visit and chat in the next couple of weeks? weekend is busy, but most evenings are pretty good for us.

    Ross,
I spoke to the CBC reporter and assured her that my spoken French was not up to her requirements. I offered to put the word out to the community that she was hoping to interview a bilingual member of our local backyard chicken community but do not have her contact info?

Thanks, Ross. You may be interested in an event I'm putting on on October 10 at the eatART lab, 577 Great Northern Way (around the back). It's called "Reinventing the Prayer Wheel" and is in conjunction with the 350.org 10/10/10 Global Work Party on climate change. http://www.350.org/reinventing-prayer-wheel

    Ross,

We all kind of got busy in the summer & Bruno went to France. We'll try to kick things off again in the fall when the dust settles.

In the meantime, we've been doing drop-in canning sessions under the Food Security Society.

    Arzeena
  • Dave Pollard

It would be great if we could do that Ross. We have a fair amount of material we've developed for Bowen that we'd like on our own page but would also like it to be accessible to VV.
  • Arzeena Hamir

Both Karen & Ian are doing the workshops. It's been a great canning year for sure, although fruit harvests have been abysmal in Richmond. No apples to speak for.

Looks like you guys were busy this summer.

    Hi Ross...
It was great to connect with you at the seed saving workshop on the weekend. I have just spent some time looking more thoroughly at the Village Vancouver site, and checking out the diverse collection of groups which have formed so far....I am excited to be connecting with this growing community!
    Miel
  • Tamara Shulman

Yep, I try to put only heirloom in so we can collect seeds. Passed on most excellent collection before we moved (then moving van wasn't even inspected, alas), but aim to rebuild here - only pulled a few things this year though. Pole beans, tomato, no brassicae family stuff yet (maybe will seed in spring?), lettuce shriveled and didn't really seed, carrots are only year one. But it'll come together. Great that VV is offering seed saving classes.

I need to spend some time on this website to figure it out. More importantly i need to meet more Cedar Cottage/Trout Lake folks. Good to be working back in Vancouver now, it'll be easier.

Hope this finds you well. Tamara
  • Freya Kristensen

Hi Ross, Thanks for the notice on that workshop. I am going to sneak it into agenda, hopefully.

    Cheers
  • Angela Squires

I emailed the NZ guy (an old boyfriend) but he decided not to pursue - what cowards some men are! Hope to see you soon. I'm intending to go to the movie/ community potluck on Nov 22nd. I'm very busy with my many interests and activism which is why you haven't seen me around - cheers Angela
  • Nature D.

    Hey Ross,

I'm definitely interested. I have basic general knowledge in regards to seed saving and would like to learn a lot more!

    Have a great day!
  • Caitlin Hertzman

Thanks for the welcome Ross! I've been highlighting your latest classes in Strathcona on my homesteading blog wolfandfinch.tumblr.com.

Fantastic! Thanks for the invite :) re: co-ops, I'm interested in all kinds and have yet to decide in what direction to focus my energy! I'm playing around with some ideas on how to begin something like a workers co-op for individuals with chronic health/mental health issues, tied in with access to alternative health providers... I'm delighted to have discovered VV and will be eagerly perusing the info and events!

    Best Wishes,

    Julia

Hi Ross, thank´s for the invite. All the best and I´m looking forward to be around again...
  • Linda K

Thanks for the welcome, Ross. What a great site this is! For so many years I have been growing vegetables in my front yard....you know, where the lawn is supposed to be.....and wishing I could meet like-minded people who could see the value in growing ones own food, living simply, etc. In a big city like this, we need this site to connect to one another.
  • Roland Rickus

Hey there Ross. Thanks for the friendship. I look forward to becoming active with Cedar Cottage group in the new year. I also look forward to taking Robin's 14 month long permaculture course.

    See you around,

    Roland

Only took me 6 months to figure out how to register!
  • Angela Squires

Yes - it's on my calendar and I'll post a note too - haha!
  • Dave Myers

Hey Ross, one of these days I'll get out to some of these events. Seeds were planted for involvement a few months back, and spring is on its way.

To that end, myself and a diverse collective of good, energetic, science-tech-art-music-media-design-build types are looking for worthwhile projects, especially but not necessarily if our involvement can put food on (someone's) table. Message away, anyone who may read this, we are here to help.

Thanks for your hard work on the real world, I look forward to meeting you in person.

  • Mary Gavan

thanks, Ross.   I changed the event description to make the location consistently 1805 Larch at 2nd Avenue.

The confusion arose because the instruction for that location box asked for nearby identifying landmark.  I selected the Naam but omitted to clarify this was a landmark only and that the event was at 1805 Larch.  I appreciate your input.

  • Dave Myers

I'm booked up this week but I'll come out soon.
  • Thomas Delahooke

    Thanks Ross !
  • Rasha Gad

    Hi Ross,

  • Jana Ronne

    Hi Ross,

Now apologies for my late thank yous for your great advice:)

We got evicted (2nd time in a year) due to owners reclaiming their house after long absence, so we bit the bullet and bought a house at Penticton and Adanac. So now we will have a chicken space of our own! And a big gardening space in the city half-block buffer space outside our fence. Kids and I are really happy:)

Thanks for all the great community building. We are excited to be able to stay here and we will be more involved once the whirlwind of the move subsides for us.

    Jana

  • Roy Heuckendorff

  • Jill Schroder

    Hi Ross,

It's Jill again, we were going to talk about signing on to the WIld Salmon Circle initiative. You said we could talk when you get back, but that was some time ago.   Do you want to call me, 604 662-7561 after the holidays, or could you give me a number and time when I could reach you?

    THanks, cheers,  Jill

  • Karen Hodgson

Happy to have you as a friend. I'm keeping my crossed re chafer beetle project and have (with Randy's help) installed a large L shaped raised bed on my front lawn. Just started putting in some transplants and seeds. Rain last night/this morning probably drowned them! But I sure am getting to know my neighbours!!
  • jacquie psiurski

Thanks for the welcome , any information on permaculture would be great, I'm also looking for some hands on experience .  Thanks again , --- Jacquie
