OK, Ross. Tom and I met today for two hours to start improving the site along the lines of suggestions from last Tuesday.
We've put in a new text field on the home page that spells out a bit more about VV. Feel free to make suggestions. A Projects link with a pull-down menu now shows a couple of the earlier pages from my iWeb site, still at http://web.me.com/rchat/VV/Welcome.html. These new pages are visible to all site visitors. The only problem is that these new pages also show up in our Core area, where you will find additional private pages visible only to Core Members, aka Steering Group members. Some need additional editing, but I put in 7 hours on this today, and am beat.
I'd like to keep you posted too on special events at the Billy Bishop. We will be having a new renter group, the Centre for Inquiry Vancouver, an educational charity who sponsor lectures, discussions and Skeptics in the Pub Kitsilano. This is just starting, CFI have yet to be enabled to sign rental contracts, the Billy proceeds at its usual glacial pace! :)
Thanks Ross - that sounds great. Where is the Main St workshop I registered for on Mar 7th.? Donate at the workshop right?
Skeptics in the Pub Kitsilano inaugural meeting is this Wed, Mar 3rd, 7-10.30pm in the Billy Lounge, you are most welcome to check it out. Great crowd of intelligent people.
Check out Marianne Lightfoot's Page.
She is in Burnaby, and has a specific interest in and contribution to food.
She writes: "I teach Meals That Heal. This is based on the work of Dr Weston A Price. I have particular interest in teaching how to make lacto-fermented foods which is a fancy way of saying sauerkraut, kimchi and just about any vegetable you want to use. I would like to offer a course through Village Vancouver."
I'm making plans to work in Robin's permaculture garden in a week or two... and I'm going to bring back some nursery plants!
In the yard, I've planted an Apache thornless Blackberry, and a Black Currant amongst kale and strawberries. Also some peas next to lovage hoping they will climb each other... CYa Tuesday maybe?
Thanks Ross. Looking forward to learning more about Village Vancouver. Very much interested in local food security, biodiversity etc. And I hope I can attend the food group meeting!
I was looking forward to coming to the potluck (I have many seed packets that will not get planted this summer-space/light shortage) but somebody from Alberta is coming for a spontaneous visit this weekend. I have to entertain... Next time I guess.
Thanks for the information. I won't be able to attend the food meeting tomorrow, though I would still like to get involved in one of the initiatives, are there any projects in progress?
I look forward to a meeting I can attend. I may have to participate online for now. It is tricky with a 1.5 year old daughter and bed times etc. Hopefully I will be able to catch up online.
At home I am implementing the square foot gardening philosophy. The soil is prepared, and the square feet marked off. Now it is time to plant!
thanks for the welcome! a potluck in the west end sounds great. i'm excited about village vancouver and the transition concept. the conference this weekend was really inspiring for me.
Hope you feel better soon. It was fun on Tuesday and a friend of mine Lynn showed up so we had a great time; cut some bamboo for support stakes and planted tomato plants that Derek had raised from seed. I emailed my ungodly son Thomas to join VV Kits; he lives at 6th/Vine.
Regards, Angela
thanks! I've joined my local transition village now... just getting into the swing of things and figuring out how this all works. I'm also planning to come to the Resilience event this Thursday, so I may see you there. I hear there will be some asset mapping going on, which sounds exciting!
Thanks Ross! This Wednesday I'm going to check out the west end community supported agriculture depot. Pick up is at the west end community centre between 3 and 7. I see Glenn posted May 2 support for a west end potluck. Is there one upcoming?
Thanks for the welcome. I signed up for VV cause I heard about an event that the beekeeping group was putting on. I wasn't able to attend as I found out about it the day previous- but I've emailed Ann and hope to hear about what transpired at the meeting. I've been talking to various folks about getting a Vancouver bee club going again.
Thanks for the suggestions about the groups to join.
