Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hi all,

My hens seem to have stopped eating? Hardly any of the feed is gone and they dont pounce on it like they used to. It seems to have coincided with a new bag of otter coop organic layer mash-this batch looks a little darker than it usually does. This is the same feed they were on before with no problem. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered the same issue with this feed lately? Th eother thing that is differrent is that one of the hens is broody. It seems to make the other three noisy and paranoid-does having one broody girl in the flock put everyone off their feed?

Cheers,

I can't speak to your question about the feed as we've never used that brand/type before. Do you give your girls any kitchen scraps? I would try mixing some tasty treats (rice, tomatoes, melons...) in with the mash to see if that snaps them out of it.

As for the brooding. Our silkie likes to brood (she's done it twice now - each time lasting a few weeks) and our other hens haven't changed one bit. They are acting, eating, laying and squawking as they always do!

Good luck with your girls.
