Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

A friend sent me this, but I can't take any chicks. I was under the impression that schools no longer did incubations, but I guess I was wrong.

Canadians for Ethical Treatment of Food Animals (CETFA) is an investigative and educational organization established to examine intensive farming practices, including the transportation and slaughter of animals forced to exist in this system.

Dear CETFA supporter:

CETFA just learnt of an ongoing school hatching project where 11 chicks are hatching in a Vancouver school. Two CETFA supporters, Jean and Marina - the dedicated parents of one of the school's children - are trying to find adoptive homes in the province (preferably close to Vancouver) so that the future hens (and possibly roosters) be provided with a forever, loving home. But places must be found now, as several birds have already hatched, and all will likely have hatched by Monday.

If you can adopt some of these chicks, please send us ASAP an email with a brief summary of the set up you have at your place (barn, chicken coop, etc.) and how many animals you could take (including whether you could adopt roosters), as well as your email address and a phone number where you can be reached quickly. We will pass this information to Jean and Marina so that they can get in touch with you.

Note: Animals will be placed into companion homes only. Adoptive homes must be in an area zoned for poultry. They must provide a proper shelter along with regular access to the outdoors and means of protection from predators. Adoptive homes also must agree - and be prepared - to keep the animals for the remainder of their lives.

As always, many thanks from all of us for all you are doing to help farmed animals.

The CETFA team.
