Hey all,
I am sorry for leaving everyone hanging on meeting dates and times for the next Village meeting. I think we discussed the Third Wednesday of every month, but that is coming up too quick for me to promote again, so I am going to push the Village Burnaby meeting to Wednesday January 25th, 2011 again at Bonsor Recreation Centre (unless plans change). I have created an event on the front page, and it would be great if people could attend. I would like to start talking about a direction for the group, so please bring your ideas. I would also like to talk about selecting a Board of Directors for the group so we can make planning simple and easy.
Some ideas I / other folks have:
- Car Free Days
- Community Gardens
- Community Currency
- Community Food Hub (a place to process food, distribute CSA's / good food, etc).
- Backyard Garden Sharing
Please bring your ideas with you when you come, lets get moving!
Yo! If Burnaby folks want to meet in Jan, please lets talk about it... I can host it at my house if there are not too many people (fairly small living room!) - I am super excited about planning out some great stuff! (BTW: Im the woman with the weird bangs at the meeting at Bonsor who was talking about the 22nd stn community garden) :)
Mahjabeen, Thanks for the comment. Too bad you can't make it to the meeting, but would LOVE to have you involved. I also would like to see more community gardens in the city. I had talked to the good folks at BARAGA in the Big Bend Area (http://baraga.ca/), and they expressed some interest in helping new groups set up gardens, and the city seems willing to give land if there are groups to organize and manage the plots.
If you are interested in sitting down soon-ish I would love to do coffee, and chat about ideas. Otherwise, we will be planning a meeting for January with the whole group. You can send me an email if you like at mjfstuart@gmail.com

Hi everyone! Matthew, thank you for adding me. I'm a Burnaby-er/ite(?) and was wondering if there's much in the community garden activity here that I see in the city next door to the west. I'm an amateur at best, with a long history of simply watering the garden at home (and zilch more). My ways however are changed I'd say thanks to seeing the rising prices of wholesome, healthy food, a new found pleasure in cooking what is grown in the yard, and the effects of importing in food both on the wallet and on the Earth, our one shared home. ... Love to meet you all and help out as much as I can on this urban farm and perhaps on other initiatives. Is there anything going on this month at all? ... Regards, Mehjabeen
Hey Athenaise,
Thanks for the comment, I am sorry it took me so long to see it. I am trying to get a meeting planned for early December! I hope you would still be interested, looking at hosting a potluck at a community centre.
I am very interested in your permiculture project, and your CSA, I am working right now to build an urban farm in my neighbourhood - North Burnaby by Lake City Skytrain.
Let me know if you are still interested, maybe we could split some of the marketing tasks etc... my email is mjfstuart@gmail.com
I'd like one in burnaby. I live here so I could always host meetings. I am doing a wee bit of permaculture agriculture here and building a cob shed this spring. 2013 for a new CSA in the neighborhood.
Cheers,
