Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

The Local Economy Network is undertaking an exciting project to start a community currency in the Dunbar neighbourhood (in the hope of eventually expanding and/or replicating throughout Vancouver). There are many different types of community currency, and the one that has been selected as a model for Dunbar is called Community Way. This model, which is based on the participation of businesses, non-profit community service organisations and private citizens, was invented by LETS-founder Michael Linton and is currently working in the Comox Valley and about to be launched in Nelson, B.C. this year.

To learn more about Community Way:

-The implementation team in Nelson has put together a great slideshow explaining the model which can be viewed here.

-To learn even more, check out the Community Way website at www.communityway.ca

-Community Way fits into the broader context of Michael Linton's Open Money project. You can learn more about Open Money at www.openmoney.org.

To learn more about community currency in general, I have attached a primer on the topic to this discussion.
