Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
Hello,
I am looking for some people to work on getting a grant for our neighbourhood. Vancouver is offering 25,000 to green neighbourhoods and I have a few ideas, however I haven't been here too long to know about vacant lots and what might be possible. The deadline is April 20th so we have to get going asap. I am willing to have a meeting at my place. Right now I am looking for a virtual show of hands about who might be interested or have ideas. Some of my ideas are making Slocan a greenway - adding benches and art and gardens along the wide strip that seems to go most of the way down. It would connect trout lake to the Vancouver Harbour - the foot of Slocan street near Burrardview Park. It might include another traffic circle to slow cars down and possibly other car deterants as well to be more like the greenway on Grandview Hwy North along the skytrain tracks between Victoria and Slocan.
Other ideas include: community gardens- seem lacking around here; a creative and sustainable reuse store - big!; well, I'd love to do a rooftop garden...; planting trees - for example Turner street has none on our block- fruit trees if possible; model Earthship - wouldn't that be great!; school gardens for Hastings Elementary- might actually be the best choice...
What are your ideas?
