Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hello,
I am going to apply to the Urban Food project grant for funds to buy a small extractor- I am thinking a 2 frame, hand crank extractor. This would be for Vancouver beekeepers to share.
2 questions:
- Would you want to borrow such a tool? how often?
- Do you have thoughts/ experiences to share as to which model to get?
Please reply asap as I am submitting the application thursday. Pls email at cleliemc-at-yahoo.com.
Happy to hear replies to questions even after I've submitted the application.

An extractor to share would be great! I have access to 2 extractors, but many people do not. People can
get together- 2 or 3 and share the work--it takes an afternoon to extract 10 t0 12 frames worth and makes
a big sticky mess, but it is well worth sharing. I only take honey from my 1 hive once (1 week ago). The rest
I leave for the winter.
Do you need to know the brand and model you wish to buy beforehand?
Hi,

I don't need to know the brand ahead of time- just starting to do some research

I need an extractor to help a two VV members extract honey from 3 large hives (over 40 frames).

This is a very big job, "helped" only by the fact that several months ago the deep cold spell wiped out all 3 hives.  I have checked two of the hives and the frames are heavy with honey and free of noticeable pests.

I could also use some help in exchange for a large share of the honey.

The hives are on two neighbouring properties in Point Grey.

Hi all,

I found this post on "Shared Harvest'
